Assalamualaikum Warrahmatullahi Wabaraktuh.
Hello my name is Praditya Adiga Dirgantara, you can call me Adit. Currently I am a sixth semester university student of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and taking Business Administration as my major. Well as you guess from my name, I came from Indonesia, a country with millions natural beauty where I bet you will not find a country who has a similarity with heaven as perfect as that. Sometimes, I felt that living in Malaysia makes me miss my beloved homeland, not because of anything except the cullinary and natural tourism stuffs that I bet no countries would have the same ammount of beauty and food variety as much as Indonesia. Lastly, I am a firstborn children from two brothers.
At the Usrah 1 with brother Faris, I used to learn some subjects that related Islamic beliefs and values, such as Pillars of Islam, Iman, Qur'an Book of Guidance, and Akhlaq. In Pillars of Islam, we learn about there are 5 pillars in Islam that should be done by a Moslem. First pillar is Shahada, it means declares belief in the oneness (tawhid) of God (Allah) and the acceptance of Muhammad as God's messenger. So by sayying ašhadu ʾan lā ʾilāha ʾilla -llāhu, wa-ʾašhadu ʾanna muḥammadan rasūlu -llāhi it means that we need to fully believe that there is no God that should be worship except Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala and accept Muhammad Alaihi Salam as his messenger. Second pillar is Salat, it means a practice of prayer in Islam that need to be done 5 times a day. The third pillar is fasting in Ramadhan, it means that we need to hold our lust to do eat, drink, and also any other bad deeds. Fasting in Ramadhan means that we need to purify ourselves infront of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala so we could pass the Ramadhan by the condition of fitr or sacred. The fourth is Zakah, it means that a person needs to gives some of his wealth to those who deserve because all of our wealth is not own by us but it is a loan from Allah and we should give to those who deserve refer to what Allah command.Last pillar is Hajj, it means a worship that been done annually by Muslims in Saudi Arabia, people will go to Mecca, Medina, Mina, Arafah, and many other places right there to do what Allah command.
The next thing that we learned in Iman, it means a faith or belief in Islamic theology denotes a believer's faith in the metaphysical aspects of Islam. Its most simple definition is the belief in the six articles of faith, known as arkān al-īmān. Sic pillars of Iman are belief in the existence and oneness of God (Allah), belief in the existence of angels, belief in the existence of the books of which Allah is the author: the Quran (revealed to Muhammad), the Gospel (revealed to Isa), the Torah (revealed to Musa), belief in the existence of all Prophets: Muhammad being the last of them, Jesus the penultimate, and others sent before them, belief in the existence of the Day of Judgment which in that day, humanity will be divided into two groups, that of paradise and that of hell, belief in the existence of Allah's predestination, whether it involves good or bad.
In Qur'an book of guidance, we learned about Al-Qur'an is the Holy Book of Islam and need to be learned and follow by all Moslems. The content of Al-Qur'an is Kalamullah or The Word of Allah, so that is why this book is called as the Holy Book of Islam. Al-Qur'an is the last book that given by Allah to his messangers and the function of Al-Qur'an it self is to complete all previous books that given by Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. So that is why for those Ahlul Kitab, such as jewish and christian who believes that Allah as their only God as their prophet, Isa and Musa, said need to convert to Islam because Al-Qur'an accomplished their Holy Books.
The last thing that we learned in Usah 1 is Akhlaq, it means disposition, nature, temper, ethics, morals or manners of a person. In Islam a person's akhlaq needs to be reflected to what Allah and Rasulullah command in Al-Qur'an and As-Sunnah. Akhlaq is divided in to two categories, which is Akhlaqul Karimah which means commendable moral and Akhlaqul Mazmumah which means despicable morals. All of our deeds could be categorized either into two of those categories and to know which category we are in, we need to refer to what Allah and Rasulullah command and prohibit, if we are doing what Allah and Rasulullah command so it means we are doing Akhlaqul Karimah while if we are doing what Allah and Rasulullah prohibit it means we are doing Akhlaqul Mazmumah. To stress out I will quote a verse from Al-Qur'an that talks about Akhlaq which is "Indeed, the Prophet (self) is a good example for you." (Surah Al-Ahzab: 21). This means that what Rasulullah did is a good example and need to be followed by us as a Moslem.
The thing that I got in learning in Usrah 1 is I could memorize all of the Islamic values that may be has forgotten by me because of my bustle, I am so grateful because by learning in Usrah 1 I could instill deeper confidence about the Islamic values. Usrah also teach a lot of students that may do not know about these things before and right now they could know about Islamic values deeper because Islamic values will lead us to the heaven of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. One thing that I regret from Usrah 1 is Usrah 1 only teach about Islamic values without comparing to another religion values, because I think it is interesting part to also compare with another religion values. I hope in the future Usrah 1 could teach a comparison between Islamic values that we learn with abother religion values
The conclusion that I want to give out is we need to grateful to IIUM, because not all of universities could remember and keep maintaining in teaching Islamic values to their students and this opportunity need to be taken by all students in IIUM regardless of their faculty or major because being Muslim means we need to understand our religion regardless of our position and job. By learning Usrah inshaallah it will help us in understanding Islam better.
