Reflection on Week 12: Responsible Consumerism Advocacy

Advocacy on responsible consumerism is something that must be studied in depth because advocacy for responsible consumerism is not a simple matter, but requires stages that must be passed. The first stage that must be passed is the first plan your campaign. By doing a plan for the campaign that we will make, then the campaign will be clear about its intent and essence. After planning the campaign, we continue to create awareness. The purpose of creating awareness is so that people can find out about the problems that we provide and if they have the same concerns as us then later on they will also take part in helping us to voice these problems. However, creating awareness is not enough, there must be engagement built and this stage we call generate engagement. This stage means that people can follow our advocacy actions, through word of mouth or through social media, so we are required to convince the public that the problem we are bringing is a serious problem and in the hope tha...

Reflection on Week 11: Responsible Consumerism Model

Understanding responsible consumerism is quite complex, this is because implementing responsible consumerism is not only about disposing waste in its place, but beyond that there are factors to be able to fully implement responsible consumerism. After I studied this lesson, I realized that there are several natures in responsible consumerism. These models are described in the form of human awareness of consumerism triangle. The first is economic responsibility, this model is at the bottom because it is considered the most understood by everyone. Economic responsibility means that businesses will target to attain profit as much as possible and be responsible to all of their stakeholders economically, such as investors, business owners, and employees. To implement the economic responsibilities, businesses will obviously plan their product, marketing, and pricing strategies and conduct employee training as effective and efficient as possible. By planning the best strategies, they will ...

Reflection on Week 10: Building Consumer Awareness

Building public awareness of consumerism is not an easy thing, there are many factors so that one can understand more about how important consumerism is. There is a role for parents as a child's first life teacher, peers and people around them as the place and environment for the person to live, non-governmental organizations that focus on consumerism as an association that moves to ensure the rights of society towards consumerism are guaranteed, and the government as law enforcement so that what the people consume is safe and secure. For example, a child who likes to eat candy will always ask his parents to buy him candy, but candy and all sweet things if not controlled will be very dangerous for the health of the child's own body, therefore it is important for his parents to explain and provide education to the child from an early age about the dangers of eating too much candy. This is just one example of community education that departs from the most intimate thing in life,...

Reflection on Week 9: Institutions of Consumer Rights Protection

Protection of consumer rights is the right of every level of society, both globally, regionally, nationally, and locally. Knowing this made me realize how important it is for people to be aware of consumer rights. We are used to being indifferent to what we buy or consume because we feel that what is sold and consumed in general by the public means it is safe and healthy for consumption, even though there may be a manufacturing process that violates the production code of ethics or there are administrative matters on consumerism that violated by them. For example, JCo and BreadTalk, two brands from Indonesia that produce and sell donuts and bread. Quoted from the HALAL Corner community on Facebook, as of April 2021 the two brands do not yet have a halal registration number at an institution that provides halal certification for a product in Indonesia called the Lembaga Pengkajian Pangan dan Obat-Obatan Kosmetika Majelis Ulama Indonesia (LPPOM MUI) and until now The halal status of t...

Reflection on Week 8: Models of Consumer Policy

Consumer policy is a policy that regulates all things about consumerism, both in terms of consumer goods and capital goods. Some of the things discussed were consumer rights, responsibilities of producers and sellers, and all things that are indeed regulated so that the market can run well so that the health, safety and welfare of the community can be guaranteed. Everything related to consumer policy must relate to stakeholders, especially the government which regulates state laws. Anything that is regulated by the state is certainly in the form of intervention to various parties, be it companies or consumers, but that is law, which means to force or suppress, this is done to anticipate unwanted things such as marketplace abuses, market failures, unsafe products or services, and others. For example, in Indonesia, the trade government has decided not to allow anyone to buy luxury goods abroad, and if they buy luxury goods from abroad, they are required to pay excise duty and taxes up...

Reflection on Week 7: Understanding the Services Sector

The service sector is an intangible product sector, in contrast to the tangible product sector where we can feel it with our five senses, the service sector cannot be seen and felt, but we can feel its presence. For example, with grabfood delivery, we can enjoy food delivery services, what grabfood sells is not the food, because the food comes from restaurants that work with grabfood, what we receive from grabfood is the delivery service. Private consumption itself means consumer expenditure made by individuals, whether it is expenditure to buy consumer goods or to buy services. If we correlate private consumption with the service sector, we can already see a lot of people using the service sector. Previously, it was discussed about grabfood delivery services, as explained earlier that grabfood delivery does not sell food but sells delivery services. Talking more about the service sector, which is essentially an intangible product, there is a significant difference between intang...

Reflection on Week 6: UNDERSTANDING THE TANGIBLE GOODS SECTOR

In general there are three things that are covered in this chapter which are social logic of consumption, tangible goods sector, and advocacy framework for consumer awareness. According to the adherents of egalitarian welfare, consumption is done so that a person can get a level of happiness in himself and according to them everyone is required to have an equal standard of welfare, where no one is richer and no one is poorer. However, in reality, at this time when capitalism runs the world's economy, this is not easy because of the hierarchical industrial system where some are more powerful than others, so the sacred dream of the adherents of egalitarian welfare is not realized and in the end creates social inequality between the rich and the poor. Due to the social inequality that has emerged, the next discussion is about a person's standards in determining their consumption or what we can call the logic of consumption. Some examples of logic of consumption are sustainabili...

Reflection on Week 5: CONSUMER AWARENESS AND STRATEGIES

Raising awareness and strategizing so that consumers are interested in our products are two things that need to be studied by a company. In practice, there are two things that a company must learn, the first is consumer acquisition strategies and the second is consumer awareness and education. Consumer acquisition is a company process in attracting consumers' attention, so that in the end they are interested in buying the company's products rather than buying products from competing companies. In the process there are 6 stages that must be passed by the company. The first is awareness, at this stage what a company must do is introduce and make consumers aware that the products the company sells do exist in the market. The second is interest, at this stage the company is indeed required to make marketing as attractive and as good as possible so that consumers are not only aware and know what products we sell, but the company must also make consumers think "like this produc...

Reflection on Week 4: PRODUCERS’ PRACTICES AND CONSUMER PROTECTION

As explained in the previous chapter, as a company that provides products and services, it is important for stakeholders in a company to instill ethical values in its corporate governance. But besides that, a consumer is also required to instill ethical values in him. There are three categorizations in the ethical values of a consumer. The first is positive ethical purchase behavior. For example, a consumer is required to buy something with ethical characteristics, such as when we come to a supermarket to buy an item, then what the consumer should do is pay first for the item before he is allowed to use or enjoy the item, unless there are items that really can be tried first. There have been several instances where a consumer bought a snack at a supermarket but he had opened and tasted the food before paying. Even though this is legal, because in the end he will pay for the food he buys, but the food that has not been paid for is still categorized as unlawful food and has not been ...

Reflection on Week 3: Harmonizing Producers’ Priorities and Customer Awareness

Harmonization of the interests of producers and customer awareness are things that are highly desired by each party, where there is a mutualistic symbiosis between producers and consumers. In reality, these things are not easy to achieve, because in practice there are too many variables to satisfy both parties. In general there are 4 things that are covered in this chapter, which are pursuing consumer satisfaction, accommodating diverse values, ensuring effective governance compliance, and prospering with the community. The need for symbiotic mutualism between companies and consumers is because of the relationship between companies and consumers at the first place. For example, consumers provide resources in the form of land, labor and capital, then the company provides income in the form of wages to consumers. In addition, companies provide goods and services to consumers and in return, consumers provide consumption spending to companies. Several variables that are of interest t...

Reflection on Week 2: Integrating the Sejahtera Framework, Sustainable Development and Maqasid alShariah into Customer Awareness

In general there are four subtopics that are covered in this chapter, which are levels of customer awareness, consumer awareness advocacy, consumer intelligence, consumer awareness with Sejahtera Framework. Basically consumer awareness is an understanding or an act where consumer can delivers the information about the products, goods, services, and consumer rights. By having a good consumer awareness means that we have a good understanding about the goods or services that we used either its benefits or its disadvantage, so at the end we can have the right decision when we choose or apply the product. There are 5 stages of consumer awareness, which are unaware, problem aware, solution aware, product aware, most aware. In an era when many people are vying to be rich with the various products or services they sell, it is very important for us as ordinary people who are their target market to have awareness of the products or services they offer. Having an awareness of the product or se...

Reflection on Week 1: Consumption, Consumer Values, and Sejahtera Framework

In general there are five subtopics that are covered in this chapter, which are Existing Consumption Framework, Existing Consumer Value, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SDG 12 Responsible Consumption and Production Framework, and Sejahtera Framework. Under the Existing Consumption Framework, we learn about the meaning of consumption as well as flow of linear economy and circular economy. Consumption itself means the process that converts time and goods, services, or ideas into value. In linear economy we know about the production and consumption flow such as logistics, analysis, design, and many other. While in circular economy we learn about how are used products can be reproduced and/or reused. Furthermore, it also shows how does consumption processes are demand-driven, which are divided into customers’ perspective and marketers’ perspective. Under the Existing Consumer Value Framework, we learn about there are two values that appear in market which are hedonic value and u...

Permukaan Yang Tepat

Merdeka Hak Segala Jiwa
